Originally from Illinois, Laurie graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of San Diego. She pursued a graduate degree from the Boston College School of Social Work. She also has an additional graduate degree from the Boston University School of Theology.

Laurie has years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker. She has worked as a clinical social work consultant, case administrator, and director at different counseling and therapy locations in Massachusetts. She is certified in hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR, Level II) therapy.

Laurie has published work on "The Effects of Early Childhood Sexual Abuse on Self and Ego Development" and "Humor in Clinical Therapy with Children". She has been a local pastor since 2012.
